Was there a defining moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Throughout my life, the quest for genuine authenticity has been the driving force behind my pursuit of an extraordinary and unconventional existence. That journey of self-discovery and transformation reached a pivotal moment in 2012, when I decided to attend a healing festival led by Donny Epstein in Denver. The experience would change the course of my life.
In the period leading up to that event, I was engaged in a unique form of chiropractic care known as Network Spinal Analysis (NSA). Unlike traditional chiropractic methods, NSA uses a gentle touch technique along the spine to signal the nervous system to awaken the body's inherent self-healing capabilities. The approach is grounded in the belief that our nervous systems are intricately linked to a larger network, with NSA serving as the bridge between the two.
The culmination of that journey happened in Denver, where I had the privilege of being treated by Donny Epstein himself. The encounter rekindled my belief in the miraculous, instilling a renewed sense of wonder and the realization that life is filled with magic. From that moment forward, I embraced the idea that we are all capable of creating magic, learning to appreciate the beauty in life's uncertainties rather than seeking comfort only in predictability.
That experience has been a steady source of inspiration, continually reminding me that the essence of life is magical and that we, as individuals, have the power to shape our realities. It taught me to release my attachment to certainty, because it is within the realm of the unknown that the true magic of life unfolds.
Before we go further, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Tzur, with a silent "T" and a rolled "R," a personal mnemonic I adopted because my name often stumped the people I met. That quirk became part of my identity from the age of ten. That year also marked a significant turn in my life, when my family uprooted from our homeland to chase the American Dream. One sunny afternoon in August 1990, my father broke the news: we were moving to America, and I had to say goodbye to my childhood friends. The very next day brought our departure, and by early September I found myself navigating the unfamiliar corridors of a new school in fifth grade.
My father, an electrician by trade, found his calling in the nursing homes of Chicago, where he spent countless hours. It was on the weekends, accompanying him on emergency calls, that I first glimpsed the world of healthcare. As we walked the halls, he would share stories of the residents. Each tale was a window into their lives and a spark that ignited my desire to heal.
Dentistry entered my life through a similar channel of family influence. Transitioning from electrician to contractor, my father began building dental offices, and that inadvertently paved my path into the field. One of his clients, Dr. Yahav, offered me a glimpse into the profession by allowing me to shadow him, setting the stage for my future career.
Today I stand as a specialist in my field, a practicing prosthodontist and implant surgeon. Alongside my wife, I am launching Primary, a wholistic oral wellness center designed to reposition dentists at the forefront of our health journey. Because dental visits happen far more frequently than doctor's appointments, Primary aims to use those encounters as opportunities for comprehensive health education and preventive care. Our vision reaches beyond dental health, aspiring to use oral wellness as a conduit for enhancing overall well-being.
Reflecting on my journey from Israel to America, from a curious child in the hallways of nursing homes to a pioneer in wholistic dental care, I am filled with pride. Not just for my professional achievements, but for my capacity to persevere, to love, to foster unity and connection, and to build the community I have longed for since my departure in 1990.
Training and knowledge matter, but beyond that, what matters most in succeeding in your field?
In my journey through healthcare, I have come to realize that the pillars of authenticity, vitality, and connection are not just important, they are essential. These values guide my personal growth and professional conduct, and they significantly shape the experiences and outcomes of those I have the privilege to serve.
Authenticity, for me, goes beyond being sincere in my interactions. It is a genuine commitment to my calling as a healthcare provider. That authenticity helps build trust and rapport with my patients, creating a safe environment where they feel truly seen, heard, and valued. When I approach my work authentically, I find myself more engaged in empathetic communication, more grounded in ethical decisions, and more passionate in advocating for my patients' well-being. This ensures the care I provide is not only competent but also compassionate, tailored to the unique needs and circumstances of each person.
Vitality is the dynamic energy and passion I bring to my work each day. It is about maintaining an enthusiasm for learning and an eagerness for innovation, both crucial in an ever-evolving field. That vitality drives me to pursue continuous improvement, in my own skills and in the systems I am part of. The pursuit of excellence keeps the care I deliver current, responsive, and effective. A vibrant healthcare environment not only supports recovery but also encourages patients to take a proactive stance toward their health.
Connection is the essence of the healthcare experience. It represents the deep, meaningful relationships that develop between me and my patients, as well as with my colleagues. These connections are at the heart of compassionate care. They allow me to understand patients beyond their symptoms, seeing them as whole individuals with unique stories, challenges, and aspirations. That sense of connection fosters a collaborative approach, where decisions are made with mutual respect and understanding, ultimately leading to better outcomes and more fulfilling experiences for everyone involved.
In essence, authenticity, vitality, and connection are not abstract ideals. They are the very core of my practice, and they inspire me to be not just a better healthcare provider, but a better human being.
How did you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Embracing vulnerability has been a transformative journey, one that shaped my reputation in ways I could never have anticipated. At first, the idea of vulnerability conjured images of weakness or exposure to judgment. But as I went deeper into my personal and professional life, I discovered that vulnerability is in fact a source of strength and authenticity that fosters genuine connection and trust.
In my professional life, allowing myself to be vulnerable meant openly sharing my uncertainties, mistakes, and learning experiences with colleagues and patients. This was not always easy. It required a conscious effort to overcome the fear of being perceived as inadequate. Yet it was precisely that act of sharing my true self, imperfections and all, that broke down barriers and built a foundation of trust and respect. My colleagues and patients could see that I was human, just like them, navigating challenges and striving for growth. That realization fostered a collaborative environment where honesty and support could thrive.
Being vulnerable also meant being receptive to feedback, both positive and constructive. It involved actively listening and valuing other people's perspectives, even when they challenged my own views or revealed areas for improvement. This openness has been instrumental in my development, helping me refine my skills, expand my knowledge, and adapt my approach to better meet the needs of those I serve.
Vulnerability has also enabled me to lead with empathy and compassion. By acknowledging my own struggles and emotions, I became more attuned to the feelings and needs of others. That empathetic style encouraged a culture of mutual support and understanding within my team, strengthening our collective resilience and our ability to navigate adversity.
In sharing my journey and the lessons I have learned, I have been able to connect with others on a deeper level. These connections have enriched my personal life and extended my professional network in meaningful ways. People are drawn to authenticity and to the courage it takes to be vulnerable. It inspires them to embrace their own vulnerabilities, creating a ripple effect of growth and empowerment.
In essence, vulnerability has been a cornerstone of my reputation. It transformed me from someone who once viewed vulnerability as a liability into a person who sees it as a profound source of connection and strength. By embracing my vulnerabilities, I have built a reputation as a trustworthy, empathetic, and resilient person, capable of leading with authenticity and compassion. The journey has taught me that vulnerability, used with intention and care, can be one of the most powerful tools for building meaningful relationships.
